Understory

I made Understory as a plant stand for my sister. She gave me complete freedom with the design, so I decided to experiment a little.

I wanted to explore different ways of building with trusses and came up with the staggered arrangement of shelves. My sister asked that the back remain open so the truss work would be visible.

I also wanted to see how laser engraving might work with my craft-stick constructions. I enjoy using my laser engraver, and since my sister loves mushrooms and ivy, those became the decorations.

I still think the engraving looks good, but looking back, I'm not sure it fits the direction my sculpture has taken. It's probably not something I'll do again.

Understory gave me a chance to try new ideas, learn more about building with craft sticks, and make something personal for my sister.
